"Say," Pipimi speaks after calming down. "think about what you'll do if I become an adult tomorrow before you."
Popuko continues cackling until she hears Pipimi finish speaking. "Eh?"
Then the words registered in her mind. Her face becomes blank.
That same expression on Popuko's face remains for the rest of the day (and night).
Just what did she mean by that?
Become an adult? Like those motherfuckers?
Those people were nothing but bit-part characters in a show.
But Popuko thinks further into Pipimi's mystic statement.
About herself.
About her friend.
About herself again.
And again about Pipimi.
Then about the both of them.

Was that what she meant by "become an adult"?
Become boring and insignificant in a tale of life? Become a toy to the higher beings (if there were any at all)?
Become complacent in the dreaded mundane?
Become passive as life gradually pulls the two of them away.
Fuck no! She's not letting that happen!
They were made for each other! No one can replace Pipimi! No one can replace her! And if any motherfuckers try, they'll have to go through Popuko first.
And Popuko realized now.

"Popuko?"
"Yeah?"
"Do you remember that one time I asked if you liked me?"
"Clear as day! I'm still smitten by you every time I see you."
"Do you really mean that?"
"Well, yeah! No one can say that truly!"
"Oh, wow," Pipimi sighs lovingly. "I didn't think you'd feel the same way..."
They spend a few minutes reminiscing the event.
"Do you like me?" Pipimi asked cheerfully.
"I'm smitten," Popuko replied, entranced by her friend's cuteness.
Pipimi squeals with glee, "I love the way you say that!"
"Hey, Pipimi," Popuko speaks.
"Yes, Popuko?" Pipimi piques up curiously.
"How is it?" Popuko's expression turns solemn thinking about her friend's words from yesterday. "Adulthood?"
"Oh, that?" Pipimi looks away. "It's... rough."
"If it's that difficult, then..." Popuko tries to reassure her friend-slash-crush.
"I'm gonna become an adult with you too!" Popuko finishes with vigor. "We'll take on adulthood together!"
"Popuko," Pipimi worries. "It won't be easy, are you sure?"
"Absolutely! I'm not gonna let some adult stuff get in the way of our friendship!" Popuko declares proudly, taking and holding their hands up. "And relationship! I won't let some nasty motherfuckers ruin it for us!"
"I'm glad we're in this together," Pipimi whispers under her breath as she blushes from Popuko's warmth of her hand.
